Why Contacts Might Be a Good Option for Your Child

The summer is coming to a close -- are your child's eyes ready for school?

Back-to-School is a happy, yet stressful time for parents. We’re all searching for the coolest outfits and the best school supplies to get their year started right. And for many, new eyeglasses top the list. But have you considered if your child is ready for contact lenses?

At What Age Can My Child Wear Contacts?

This is a common question, and the answer might surprise you. Most people assume contacts and kids just don’t go together. But that’s not always the case.

In general, it’s safe to wear contacts at an early age. Your local optometrist can tell you whether or not it’s a good option for your child.

However, one important consideration is how well they handle other responsibilities, like cleaning up their room and personal hygiene. Wearing contacts takes more care than eyeglasses, so they need to be ready to take on that responsibility.

If you're concerned, ask your optometrist about daily disposible contact lenses or "dailies." Your child can simply take them out and throw them away at the end of the day. The next morning, put on a fresh pair and they're good to go.

Contact Lenses can be Great for Sports

Does your son or daughter play sports? Contact lenses may be a great option! Contact lenses can allow your child to play actively without having to worry about the limitations of glasses during the game.

Enhance Their Self-Esteem

Although glasses shouldn’t make your child feel self-conscious, some may dislike the way glasses make them look and feel.  If your optometrist says that contacts are an option, then let your child pick out a trendy pair of back-up glasses. Your child will love the freedom of choice and enjoy clear vision all of the time. It's the best of both worlds!

Contact lenses can help increase their self-esteem by eliminating the need for eyeglasses much of the time. You child or teen can walk into the first day of school feeling confident and ready to learn!

Give Your Child the Gift of  Eye Health and Confidence

Contact lenses may be a great option for your child. They can provide the confidence, enhanced eyesight, and overall protection they need entering the new school year.
